Sculpture activities using newspapers are very cost-effective, even among the relatively expensive art classes.

The lesson proceeded as follows:
- Introduce the idea that stable objects can be made even from thin and weak newspaper.
- Review the method of rolling newspaper together.
- Confirm the rule that one must not hit people with rolled-up newspaper.
- Actually try rolling the newspaper as thinly as possible.
- Create a tetrahedron (a triangular pyramid) and a cube, then verify their stability.
- Finally, collaborate to complete an object by assembling triangles.

This activity developed the following skills in students:
Development of fine motor skills: The task of rolling newspaper thinly serves as training for the fingertips. The ability to control the fingertips as the brain directs is useful not only for artistic skills but also in many other areas.

Mathematical thinking: Students recognize that the structure of squares is intuitively not particularly stable. First, everyone builds a tetrahedron from six rolled newspaper rods. This is boldly thrown towards the ceiling (usually eliciting cries of “We just made that!” from the students).
However, the tetrahedron, whose sides are all triangles, remains completely undamaged. In contrast, a cube made from double the number of rods, i.e., twelve rods, cannot even stand on its own. This impressively conveys the fascination of triangular structures to the children.

Improving concentration and patience: First, a large amount of newspaper needs to be rolled, requiring time and concentration. Through such activities, children can improve their concentration and patience.
Development of social skills: Depending on their developmental stage, some students may not be able to roll the newspaper because their fingertip control is not yet fully developed. In such cases, they take on the task of cutting tape. All students naturally recognize the fun of task division. Collaborating with other children and discussing the works promotes communication skills and social competencies.

The creations only last for 2-3 days. Therefore, calling everyone to “become cats” and meowing loudly while swiftly destroying and cleaning up the creations is actually quite fun!
